From a few months ago, as wildfires were starting to spread across Oregon. This was the last clear night, and the smoke was just starting to roll in. I was out on a walk in the evening and caught this amazing formation highlighted by the sunset. Not sure which exposure setting I like more, so here’s both.

Miscellaneous photography
Tacoma and Seattle
In April of this year, I had a work trip up to Washington state. After it was done, I had a 4-day weekend, so I decided to head over to Tacoma to spend some time with my cousin (many thanks for the hospitality, R&J), then head up to Vancouver. I’m splitting this into two posts – this one is Washington, and the next will be Vancouver.
I said I’d post pictures of my trip on the blog, so now I have. (Yes, I know it’s 6 months late.)

Wave Clouds
I caught this photo out my office window a while back. Best guess is a wave cloud. Whatever it is, it looked really neat.

This guy was waiting for me at Denver Airport last year. I wonder if he’ll be back this year?

Rainbow
Well, I’m doing just wonderful at posting regularly, aren’t I?
I was taking a flight recently for a work trip, and when I looked out the window, I saw the entirety of a rainbow. Rainbows are also circular, but the bottom half is usually hidden by the ground. It all has to do with the way that light bounces around in water droplets.

Pumpkin
It’s still Halloween on this coast (for a few more minutes, at least), so here’s my entry in the office pumpkin carving contest. Oh dear…

Making an animation
Figuring out how to make the animation of the eclipse from my last post was an interesting process. It ended up taking 3 different programs (not to mention a bunch of dead ends), but I’m quite happy with how it turned out, and it was completely free.

The Eclipse of the Century – a retrospective
As of the date of posting, (September 25, 2018), the “Great American Eclipse” was 400 days ago on August 21, 2017. Why 400 days instead of a year? Well, 400 is just a much nicer number than 365 (actually, it’s 365 and a quarter days (actually actually, it’s 365.2422 days (actually actually actually… yeah, I just didn’t get this ready in time for the one-year anniversary))).

Clouds over Colorado
I was back in Colorado for Christmas last year, and caught a few really neat cloud formations. As best I can determine, they’re lenticular clouds. Whatever they are, they are awesome.
