My sister spent about a year in the country of Georgia with the Peace Corps. Over Christmas and New Years, myself and my other sister met up with her, and we spent a week in Italy and a week in Georgia. While we were in Georgia, I was exposed to the wonder that was Georgian cuisine: bread, cheese, potatoes, meat (you know, the good stuff). If you’ve never tried khinkali or khachapuri, do so as soon as possible – you won’t be disappointed.
It turned out that some of the Peace Corps people from several years before had moved back to Portland and had opened a food cart (as one does in Portland). Unfortunately, by the time I heard about it, they had closed down. Imagine my delight when I heard that they were opening a restaurant – Kargi Gogo! I braved the trip all the way from one side of Portland to the other to try it.
Assessment: amazing! I got the acharuli khachapuri (cheese, butter, and egg in a bread boat) with the red adjika sauce, and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Seriously, if you are ever in the Portland area, stop by – you won’t regret it (except maybe your waistline).

Yes!! I’m glad you went. Next time get some kinkhali and good Georgian wine and pretend I’m there. The Georgian place here is too expensive and fancy for the likes of me.
